Abstrak

This classroom action research (CAR) aimed to improve students’ mathematics learning outcomes through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The subjects were 37 tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri Model Terpadu Madani in the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected using learning achievement tests and student activity observation sheets. The data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The findings revealed an improvement in students’ learning outcomes. The average score increased from 50.81 in the pretest with 32.43% mastery to 76.51 in the first cycle with 59.46% mastery, and further improved to 83.78 in the second cycle with 75.68% mastery. Paired sample t-test results indicated a highly significant difference between pretest and posttest scores in both cycles. Moreover, the observation results showed that students became more active, independent, and confident in expressing their ideas during group discussions.

In conclusion, the implementation of Problem Based Learning proved effective in enhancing students’ mathematics learning outcomes as well as fostering active participation and social skills through contextual and meaningful problem-based activities.
