Abstrak

Background: Bullying is a repeated behavior typically carried out by children, often from a higher social or power position. According to the Central Java Statistical Agency (BPS Jawa Tengah), in 2020 there were 1,427 cases of violence against children, with the highest incidence of bullying occurring in junior high schools among 13-14 year olds. This age group is characterized by a need for peer recognition, which can provide support in bullying situations. Factors influencing bullying include social interactions, family dynamics, self-confidence, and peer support. The negative impacts of bullying on victims include decreased self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness, and can even lead to suicidal thoughts, as reported by the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) in 2023. Objective: To determine the relationship between self-confidence and peer support with bullying behavior among adolescents. Method: This study employed a quantitative correlational research design using a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique utilized was stratified random sampling. The population of this study consisted of 746 students from SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta, with a sample size of 90 students. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire. Results: Based on the research data tested using Fisher Exact Test, the results showed that self-confidence and bullying behavior had a P Value (sig) of 0.001 < 0.05, and peer support and bullying behavior had a P Value (sig) of 0.012 < 0.05. Therefore, Ho (null hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. Conclusion: There is a relationship between self-confidence and peer support with bullying behavior among adolescents.
